Honeybush tea is caffeine free and it also has a lower tannin content than black tea. It is packed with a blend of powerful antioxidants – especially mangiferin – and also contains natural plant (phyto-) oestrogens.
Drinking honeybush tea regularly could play an important role in overall health and wellbeing. Researchers are still exploring the links between honeybush and good health, but have already found evidence that honeybush have the following health-promoting effects:
- Has properties that could assist with the prevention and slowing down of cancer; A lot of research still needs to be done though.
- Imitating the effects of human oestrogen thereby providing an alternative treatment to hormone replacement therapy for women suffering from menopausal symptoms; and potentially protecting postmenopausal women against cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.
